The Alpha Alpha Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications from college-bound high school seniors for the following scholarships:

Sonja W. Garcia Leadership Award | $1,000

HBCU Heritage Award | $1,000

Alpha Alpha Theta Omega (AATO) Scholarship | $1,000
The Sonja W. Garcia Leadership Award was established in honor of our chapter’s Organizing President, Sonja W. Garcia, a dedicated 50 year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. For decades, she has held multiple leadership roles locally, regionally and internationally. Her passion for youth has been demonstrated through her unwavering commitment to higher education, leadership development, community service and youth empowerment.
Students who plan to attend a Historically Black College or University will be considered for the HBCU Heritage Award.
A third recipient will be awarded the AATO Scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria:

Must be a graduating senior from a Northern Hillsborough or Pasco County High School.

Must hold a minimum of 3.0 grade point average.

Must submit a letter of recommendation from your school administrator, counselor, or teacher.

Must submit a 200 – 300 word, typewritten, double-spaced essay on one of these topics:
-
“If you could explain to a historical figure why you will succeed, who would that be and what would you tell him or her?”
-
“Discuss how you have overcome economic, academic, or personal challenges."
-
“Identify a major issue in our country and propose a solution.”

Must submit a completed scholarship application.

Must submit current, officially sealed transcript.

Must be postmarked by deadline: Monday, April 22, 2024
